Privacy Policy

1.  Purpose of this policy

This privacy policy is to provide information on how Alfa collects, processes, stores and manages personal data and the mechanisms used on our website to collect key data items to support system performance and analytics.

For the purposes of this privacy policy Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Sensitive Personal Information (SPI) are defined within the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The protection and privacy of the data we process is of the upmost importance and in both a capacity as a Data Controller and as a Data Processor we are constantly striving to maintain and improve our commitment to data security and privacy.  At Alfa, we have also committed to meeting the requirements of the industry, International Standards such as ISO27018:2014 and ISO27001:2013.

ISO27018:2014

Establishes commonly accepted control objectives, controls and guidelines for implementing measures to protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with the privacy principles in ISO/IEC 29100 for the public cloud computing environment.

ISO27001:2013

Is a specification for an information security management system (ISMS). The ISMS is a framework of policies and procedures that includes all legal, physical and technical controls involved in an organisation's information risk management processes.

2.  Visitors to our website

When anyone visits the Alfa website we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site.

We do not make any attempt to find out the personal identities of those visiting our website. We will not associate any data gathered from this site with any personally identifying information from any source.  If we do want to collect personally identifiable information through our website, we will be up front about this.  We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.

2.1.  Cookies

We use cookies to help us improve the performance of our website and understand webpage traffic in order to improve our website and overall customer experience. Learn more about cookies.

The cookies used are split into two categories, which are described below.

First Party Cookies

First party cookies are cookies that are set by the site itself and can only be read by this site. They are commonly used for the functionality of the site. Alfa uses the following:

  • X-Mapping-pplofcob

The X-Mapping cookie is associated with the Stingray Traffic Manager platform from Riverbed, which is a load balancing application for high traffic web services and sites. Used to route data and page requests to the correct server where a site is hosted on multiple servers. It has a common root of X-Mapping- followed by an eight-letter code. Please see more information.

The main purpose of this cookie is: Strictly Necessary

  • __utmt

This cookie is set by Google Analytics. According to their documentation it is used to throttle the request rate for the service - limiting the collection of data on high traffic sites. It expires after 10 minutes

The main purpose of this cookie is: Performance

  • __utma

This is one of the four main cookies set by the Google Analytics service which enables website owners to track visitor behaviour and measure site performance. This cookie lasts for two years by default and distinguishes between users and sessions. It is used to calculate new and returning visitor statistics. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. The lifespan of the cookie can be customised by website owners.

The main purpose of this cookie is: Performance

  • __utmb

This is one of the four main cookies set by the Google Analytics service which enables website owners to track visitor behaviour and measure site performance. This cookie determines new sessions and visits and expires after 30 minutes. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. Any activity by a user within the 30-minute life span will count as a single visit, even if the user leaves and then returns to the site. A return after 30 minutes will count as a new visit, but a returning visitor.

The main purpose of this cookie is: Performance

  • __utmc

This is one of the four main cookies set by the Google Analytics service which enables website owners to track visitor behaviour and measure site performance. It is not used in most sites but is set to enable interoperability with the older version of Google Analytics code known as Urchin. In this older version this was used in combination with the __utmb cookie to identify new sessions/visits for returning visitors. When used by Google Analytics this is always a Session cookie which is destroyed when the user closes their browser. Where it is seen as a Persistent cookie it is therefore likely to be a different technology setting the cookie.

The main purpose of this cookie is: Performance

  • __utmz

This is one of the four main cookies set by the Google Analytics service which enables website owners to track visitor behaviour measure of site performance. This cookie identifies the source of traffic to the site - so Google Analytics can tell site owners where visitors came from when arriving on the site. The cookie has a life span of 6 months and is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics.

The main purpose of this cookie is: Performance
